Lifestyle Elements

Here is a quote from Abraham that illustrates how LoA influences lifestyle:

Each and every component that makes up your life experience is drawn to you by the powerful Law of Attraction's response to the thoughts you think and the story you tell about your life. Your money and financial assets; your body's state of wellness, clarity, flexibility, size, and shape; your work environment, how you are treated, work satisfaction, and rewards-indeed, the very happiness of your life experience in general-is all happening because of the story that you tell. --- Abraham

You hear the term “Lifestyle” kicked around a lot. Just what is lifestyle, anyway?

Commercial advertising loves this word…there is a whole method of 'Lifestyle Advertising' which is key to Influencing Brand Conversations, Driving Purchasing Behavior and Monetizing Customer Relationships.…(Wow!)

According to Wikipedia:
in sociology, a lifestyle is the way a person lives. The word was originally coined by Austrian psychologist Alfred Adler in 1929. The current sense of the word dates from 1961. A lifestyle is a ”characteristic bundle of behaviors” that makes sense to both others and oneself in a given time and place, including social relations, consumption, entertainment, and dress. The behaviors and practices within lifestyles are a mixture of habits, conventional ways of doing things, and reasoned actions. A lifestyle typically also reflects an individual's attitudes, values or worldview. Therefore, a lifestyle is a means of forging a sense of self. Not all aspects of a lifestyle are entirely voluntary. Surrounding social and technical systems can constrain the lifestyle choices available to the individual and the symbols she/he is able to project to others and the self.

The lines between personal identity and the everyday doings that signal a particular lifestyle become blurred in modern society. For example, "green lifestyle" means holding beliefs and engaging in activities that consume fewer resources and produce less harmful waste (i.e. a smaller carbon footprint), and deriving a sense of self from holding these beliefs and engaging in these activities. Some people argue that, today, the cornerstone of lifestyle construction is consumption behavior, which offers the possibility to create and further individualize the self with different products or services that signal different ways of life..

Well, that’s a lot of definition!

Breaking it down, the elements of lifestyle seem to be (I’m not a sociologist!) - Behaviors, practices, and habits in these areas of life:

  • Social Relationships
  • Consumption
  • Entertainment
  • Dress

All this is sort of “governed” by current social convention, the available technology, and personal choice. All of it together is your personal statement of who you are in the world and how you want to be seen by others.

So – this is BIG! Lifestyle is the whole ball of wax.

Looking at the list above with my non-sociologic eye, the only one that is very important to me personally is Social Relationships. The other 3 seem to me to be rather frivolous. What does it really matter what I buy, how I prefer to be entertained or what I wear? But—supposing it does matter—does LoA interact with my consumption, entertainment and dress? Yes, I believe it does, because LoA works whether or not you are conscious of it working. It’s a Law of the Universe. It just IS.

Here is where the idea that LoA responds to “Who I AM” is clearly illustrated. Field study states that my identity, or who I am willing to be in any situation, determines what I get to experience. Also, Field encourages people to continuously be the best possible version of oneself (can’t go wrong with that).

Who I really am does show up in what I buy and use (consumption), how I like to be entertained, and how I dress are an expression of Who I Am. Absolutely.

Unless I’m being influenced by peer pressure, lack of technology (no ipod) or environmental disaster (earthquake), I’ll buy, entertain myself and dress pretty much within a rather narrow range of possibilities. You won’t find me buying a fur coat, or going to a nightclub wearing that coat over a skimpy gold dress. Not going to happen…unless a lot of force is applied!

Well, that was a fun thought…

Is LoA responsible for all that? Sure. I get to create Who I AM and it shows up in what I buy, what I think is fun, and how I dress.

Now, looking at the one that matters more to me – social relationships. I have all sorts of relationships going. Lets look at some hypothetically troublesome ones (!) This is where I think LoA gets a chance to shine. Abraham has a lot to say about relationships, how we treat others and how we let them treat us. And what to DO ABOUT IT. The easiest possible technique is to simply not be in vibrational harmony with these people. Meaning not attracting the annoying people into my life any more. Then they just “clatter off” into the sunset and presumably bother the heck out of someone else.

Yay! Glad that’s working for me…

Oh, wait a minute…that hardly ever works for me. How about you?

Abraham also has another technique. Those people who are annoying are really a gift to cause me a bit of contrast where I then get to create whatever I prefer instead in a relationship.

That’s good. I like that…

Oh, wait a minute…that’s not working either!

And another thing, you can’t just walk away from relationships, either because wherever you go, there you are with your same points of attraction in force, for all relationships – the annoying mother, the irritating spouse, the bratty kids.

Oh boy! This is NOT turning out to be very uplifting. I think I really do need LoA to work some magic in the relationship area of my lifestyle. I think I’ll allow for the “clatter off” method while adjusting my points of attraction to loving mother, faithful spouse, and cooperative kids. I’ll also use some Field techniques and BECOME a loving daughter, appreciative mate, and a patient mother, too.

Okay, that’s better…all those lifestyle elements are indeed being affected by and working with Law of Attraction.

There you go!
